New developments coming to Burleson

Jun. 27—Several new businesses are coming to Burleson, the city announced recently.

Two vacant buildings at the corner of Summercrest and Wilshire Boulevard will be demolished to bring four new restaurants on the two-acre lot. Three have been approved so far — Fatburger, Coolgreens and Hawaiian Bros Island Grill.

Fatburger is an American fast casual restaurant specializing in food cooked and made to order. This will be their sixth location in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

The Burleson site will be Coolgreens' fourth location in the Metroplex. Coolgreens will offer nutritious salads, wraps, grain bowls and sandwiches.

Hawaiian Bros will serve up island-inspired lunches, sides and salads when they open their restaurant in Burleson, their 12th location in the DFW area.

"Working with Retail Connection and Kaufman Consultants on numerous projects in our market has been incredible. They completely understand our market and continue to make a difference in Burleson," said Alex Philips, city of Burleson economic development director. "This development will reenergize a great corner on Wilshire, and it will create an amazing place for our citizens to enjoy new restaurants with different concepts that aren't currently in our area."

The development will also address many site improvements in the area, including drainage, shared access, traffic flow and water infrastructure.

"We are very excited about our second project in Burleson. The interest level we have had from all prospective tenants has been very inspiring, to say the least," The Retail Connection Executive Vice President Tony Filley said. "We've had the opportunity to work with the top tenants in their respective categories, and this is indicative of how vibrant and exciting Burleson has become. Burleson has a tremendous amount of upside with unlimited opportunities. It is always helpful when working with a city that has the same values and visions. The City of Burleson has been fantastic to work with and we are always looking down the road for future projects."

Another new restaurant, Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, is under construction at 608 S.W. Wilshire Blvd. Based out of Wichita, Kansas, the fast-casual restaurant chain serves up steakburgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. They also provide frozen custard with a variety of specialty sundaes and concretes.

QuikTrip is building a new location on a 1.5-acre lot at 449 E. Renfro St.

Ellison Street Project

Ellison Street project is under construction at 135 and 114 W. Ellison St. and is part of the city's ongoing focus on Old Town.

The development at 135 W. Ellison St. will consist of seven buildings and will include 29,755 square feet of retail space and 22,050 square feet of office space. There will also be a new parking lot constructed at 140 W. Bufford St. in conjunction with the development. One building will be owned by Heim BBQ and the building next to Heim BBQ will be a restaurant and office user that is to be determined. The development at 114 W. Ellison St. will consist of 5,500 square feet of retail space and 5,500 square feet of office space.

Chisholm Summit and Hooper Business Park

RA Development has proposed the city's first master-planned community, Chisholm Summit. The project will feature residential homes, over 100 acres of dedicated parkland, including an equestrian center, a community park, pocket parks, trail parks and over 10 miles of an interconnected trail system that will weave through the development. The project will also feature large peaceful ponds for fishing and relaxing and horseback riding trails.

Chisholm Summit will feature 28 acres of commercial space, Hooper Business Park, a 106-acre professional office park/medical district, and Chisholm Square, a community "downtown" node that will be similar to the city's Old Town.

The development will feature a variety of residential lot sizes to meet any resident's age, family status or income. Townhomes, 40- to 80-foot lots and estate lots ranging in prices from the $290,000's to $1 million will all be available. At build out the project is expected to accommodate about 3,066 residential units. The homes will be in Joshua ISD, water will be provided through the Johnson County Special Utility District, sewer will be provided by the city of Burleson and electric will be provided by United Cooperative Services.

The project will improve roadways, giving Burleson residents direct access to Chisholm Trail Parkway and enhance emergency response times to the city's western residents.
