DeVonta Smith teases a potential reunion with the Miami Dolphins

Eat your hearts out, Miami Dolphins fans. Dolphins fans everywhere have been eagerly chomping at the bit to see the team make investments into the team’s wide receiver room that would include the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner, Alabama’s DeVonta Smith. This wouldn’t just be any other addition, however. Smith entering the fray for the Dolphins would mean running it back with his former college quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.

And we’ve now heard from Smith himself about the idea of a reunion in South Florida between the dynamic duo. Both parties seem to dig the idea.

“We just talk about (a reunion), talk about how it’d be nice just to run it back again. Not too much, but somewhat talk about it,” said Smith while on NFL Network in the immediate aftermath of the Dolphins’ first Senior Bowl practice from Mobile this afternoon.

Smith did not partake in any of the activities on the field as he continues to heal from a finger injury suffered in the Crimson Tide’s National Championship victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes. But never the less, his presence looms large over the Dolphins’ critical 2021 offseason — and Smith spent much of practice chatting it up with another former Alabama teammate, running back Najee Harris. Harris did partake in Miami’s practice today and is considered by many the favorite to be selected with the Dolphins’ second 1st-round selection at No. 18 overall.

The more pieces of the Alabama offense the Dolphins can assemble this offseason to help “run it back” around Tagovailoa, the better Miami’s chemistry will figure to be amid the team’s third offensive coordinator in as many seasons. Common sense and logic suggest it would be a huge boost to Miami’s install and ability to perform quickly at a high level.

Reunions for Tagovailoa and his weapons make all the sense in the world. We know it. And now we know they’re aware of it, too.
