DEWITT TWP. — A popular breakfast restaurant is closing its doors for good, to the shock of employees and patrons.

Flap Jack Restaurant, 12800 S. Old U.S. 27, is closing at 2 p.m. Friday, manager Penny Martinez confirmed Thursday. Employees and family members of employees have posted about the closure since Wednesday.

"To all of our wonderful customers, this Friday will be the last day that Flapjacks of DeWitt will be open," Amber Stanton wrote in a St. Johns community Facebook group Thursday. "We will be closing for good. Thank you for everything, your Flapjacks Family."

A request for comment was not immediately returned by Eleanor Wasson, who is listed as the restaurant's owner.

Martinez confirmed about 20 employees will be affected by the closure. None of them are sure about what the future holds and all are scrambling for jobs due to the abrupt closure, she said.

She said she'll miss recommending people try the baked oatmeal, mini skillets and omelets.

Martinez has worked at the restaurant for 17 years and said her grandson, husband and daughter have all eaten at the establishment for as long as she can remember.

"If we ain't blood, we're family here. We're even close outside of work and we're a tight-knit crew," she said. "We're here for the locals and the people."
