Work on Dexter Coffin Bridge to last until 2024

Jan. 7—EAST WINDSOR — Repairs to the Dexter Coffin Bridge that carries Interstate 91 over the Connecticut River in Windsor Locks and East Windsor started on Monday and are expected to be completed by November 2024.

The state Department of Transportation said the $24.2 million project includes bearing and joint replacement, deck repairs, pavement overlay, new membrane waterproofing, and steel repairs within the superstructure and existing girders using cover plates and ultra-high performance concrete.

Work will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Drivers can expect traffic impacts and lane closures on Route 159 in Windsor Locks, South Water Street in East Windsor, and northbound and southbound on I-91 near exits 42 and 44.

The DOT does not anticipate the need of any detours at this time.

The project was awarded to Rotha Contracting Co. Inc. of Avon and is scheduled for completion on Nov. 18, 2024.
