DHS declared 'Home of State Champions'

May 27—Duncan Mayor Robert Armstrong, in recognition of community athletes, declared Duncan High School as Home of State Champions for 2021-2022 during a routine council meeting Tuesday evening.

With all of council present, the first order of business for Mayor Armstrong was the proclamation.

"The handwork, dedication, sportsmanship, talent and exceptional teamwork of the Duncan High School student athletes resulted in a highly successful year of athletics for Duncan Public High School," Armstrong said.

Highlights, according to the mayor, include State Championships for the Boys Golf team and the Baseball team as well as individual state honors in Girls Golf, Pom, Boys Cross Country, Wrestling and Girls Soccer. He also recognized the Special Olympics team for placing first in their division in senior pitch.

Armstrong also gave a mention to Academic All-Staters.

"Our student athletes are as brilliant as they are athletically talented," Armstrong said, noting the Academic All-State honors for Football, Girls Cross Country, Girls Golf and Girls Track.

He also recognized individual All-State honors for athletes in Boys Basketball and Wrestling.

"The student athletes, coaches, parents, faculty, school administration and the student body at Duncan Public Schools were integral in guiding the teams to victory through their unwavering support," Armstrong said.
