Diamond Brooks bounces back from season ending injury, returning to ULM women's basketball

In the first game of the 2021-22 season against Grambling State, Diamond Brooks ruptured her Achilles tendon to end her season late in the third quarter.

Brooks will officially return to the court for Louisiana- Monroe women's basketball for the 2022-23 season, the school announced Wednesday.

“I’m overwhelmed with excitement to be able to return to ULM and finish where I left off,” Brooks said. “I’ve been told that I won’t be the same, but I think that’s the point … to come back better than ever before. I’m thankful for the opportunity because I wasn’t ready to give up this game that I love.”

The 6-foot-2 center has averaged 5 points, 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting .488 from the field in 110 games played.

The sixth-year senior has scored double digits in 20 games and double digits in rebounds in four games.

The Kentwood, Louisiana native was the first athlete awarded the ULM Athletic Director Award in 2022.

"She has such a great knowledge of the game and her confidence was at an all-time high,” Louisiana-Monroe women's basketball coach Brooks Williams said. “With such a youthful team still, her leadership is extremely valuable. It’s exciting for Diamond, her family and followers as well as our program for her to be able to impact this season, and I have no doubt she will. It’s pretty cool because I don’t know anybody who loves ULM and her team more.”

The Warhawks are coming off a 4-25 record, with the 2022-23 schedule yet to be released.
