Diamond Hogs drop 16, drop Omaha to get back to winning ways

Tuesday provided the sort of game the Arkansas baseball team needed.

The sixth-ranked Diamond Hogs weren’t feeling too down in the dumps or anything. They were after all, sixth in the country. But coming off a series loss to LSU on the weekend, one that saw Arkansas outplayed for most of it, the Razorbacks could have used a little pick-me-up.

Omaha provided one as Dave Van Horn’s bunch was back its winning ways with a 16-3 win over the Mavericks from Baum-Walker Stadium.

Arkansas scored runs in each of the first four innings, including a five in the second and seven in the third, to run-rule Omaha in just seven frames. Diamond Hogs hitters reached base 24 times via hit, walk or bean-ball and the pitchers didn’t allow a single Mavericks hit over the final five innings.

Tavian Josenberger had the best individual day for Arkansas, going 2 for 2 from the leadoff spot with two walks, a home run, three runs and three RBI. Kendall Diggs also went 3 for 3 with a walk, three runs and two RBI.

Omaha scored three runs off Arkansas starter Ben Bybee, who managed just two-plus innings. Gage Wood, Ben McLaughlin, Christian Foutch and Parker Coil finished things off.

Arkansas has a short break before Alabama visits Fayetteville for a three-game set starting on Friday.
