Diamondbacks giveaways and promotions 2022: Fireworks, Hawaiian shirts and more for free

Every baseball season, the Arizona Diamondbacks use themed days, giveaways and other special events to thank and attract new fans, embracing all the communities that call metro Phoenix home.

Derrick Hall, the Diamondbacks’ president and CEO, says community groups and organizations often help facilitate special events.

“We think it’s good if we can recognize as many cultures as possible, for those who have reached out to us and asked for special promotional days or events,” Hall says.

Hall says these events help expose baseball fans to other cultures and show groups that “we appreciate you and want to introduce who you are to other fans.”

D-backs employees also help make the events happen. Noel Guevara, the club's manager for community and diversity impact programs, plans the Pride Night celebration, which will be on Saturday, June 25.

Hall says employees throughout the organization can get involved.

“We have employees like Noel that come to us and say, ‘This is very important to me. It is important to my family and important to who I am, and I want to be a part of it and the planning and execution.’ We are more than willing to allow them to be a part of it, if not lead it, because they have so much passion and pride for that,” Hall says.

One of the most popular and longest running cultural celebrations is Native American Recognition Day on Sunday, May 29.

The D-backs host an intertribal youth baseball and softball tournament, and on game day there are performances by singers and drum and dance groups, appearances by notable tribal members and a special ceremonial first pitch and national anthem performance.

Food is part of the fun all season long. Cultural events may have special food offerings, and there are foods themed to visiting teams, such as chorizo or barbecue hot dogs.

Fans also can take part in activities such as Paint in the Park. People who buy tickets to this themed event will get to create their own artwork and enjoy food and wine samples. Paint in the Park is offered on June 29, July 24, Aug. 9 and Aug. 31.

On select Fridays, fans can enjoy fireworks after games. The next postgame fireworks celebration will be on May 27.

Star Wars Night on Saturday, July 23, will incorporate additional entertainment including interaction with cosplay guests.

Fans age 15 and younger who join the Kids Club have a chance to win prizes for attending games and receive free tickets to attend Sunday games.

Giveaway items are often based on surveys and focus groups with season-ticket holders and casual fans. The bucket hat giveaway on Monday, May 30, and Serpientes replica jersey giveaway on Saturday, Sept. 17, were also influenced by fashion trends.

“This year, we heard from fans and from other teams doing it as well that there is a demand for the bucket hat. They have certainly leapt back on the popularity radar,” Hall says.

Other freebies return every year with new designs, such as the popular Hawaiian shirts for Father’s Day.
