The Texas Rangers took Game 1 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks after a walk-off home run from Adolis Garcia on Friday night in Arlington, Texas.

Game 2 of the Fall Classic will be 5 p.m. Saturday at Globe Life Field in Arlington and will be shown on Fox.

The Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies in their first Game 7 since the 2001 World Series, where Luis Gonzalez hit a walk-off single to win the team's first-ever championship.

The DBacks once again succeeded, this time with Corbin Carroll and Gabriel Moreno leading the offense and Diamondbacks pitchers holding the potent Phillies to two runs, winning 4-2 at Citizens Bank Park to propel themselves into the World Series for a showdown with the Rangers.

Follow along with our coverage throughout the World Series.

Adolis Garcia's walk-off homer in the 11th gives Rangers win in World Series Game 1 vs. Diamondbacks

ARLINGTON, Texas — It was like a thunderbolt deep in the heart of Texas, shaking the joint to its rafters, and when the noise finally died down Friday night, there it was shining lights for all of Texas to see:

Texas Rangers 6, Arizona Diamondbacks 5.

They may be talking about this World Series Game 1 for a long, long time in these parts with Corey Seager rescuing the Rangers with a stunning two-run home run with one out in the ninth inning to tie the game, and then winning it in the 11th inning on Adolis Garcia’s home run that just cleared the fence in right.

It was Garcia's fifth consecutive postseason game with a home run.

This was a game the Diamondbacks appeared to have in the bag, running, bunting and powering their way to a 5-3 lead at Globe Life Field.

The Diamondbacks bullpen, which had been spectacular all postseason, had everything all set up with closer Paul Sewald called in to protect their two-run lead. He opened by walking No. 9 hitter Leody Taveras on four pitches. Sewald shook it off, and struck out All-Star second baseman Marcus Semien, bringing up Seager.

Sewald tried to throw a first-pitch fastball by Seager.

He nearly hit it to Dallas, bouncing off the upper deck, 416 feet away.

Seager stopped, looked at his bench, flipped his bat aside, and danced around the bases as 42,472 fans at Globe Life Field screamed.

It was a new ballgame, and in the playoffs, there was no ghost runner in the 10th inning to create any fake offense.

The Rangers’ bullpen, which pitched 6⅓ shutout innings, retiring the final 10 batters of the game, provided the opportunity for heroes.

Travis Kelce spotted at Diamondbacks World Series Game 1 dancing to Taylor Swift's song

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was seen dancing on his chair to Taylor Swift during the Diamondbacks' World Series Game 1 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift surfaced in recent months as paparazzi have followed the couple and spotted them together on repeated occasions. Taylor Swift was also seen cheering for Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas for three Chiefs' home games in a row.

On Friday night, Kelce was seen dancing and shaking his hand to the rhythm of "Shake It Off (Taylor's Version)," which was released on the same day as Game 1.

Taylor Swift's 1989 album came out for the first time on Oct. 27, 2014, but Taylor's version of the album — made with new recordings of the songs, which the artist owns and profits from — was released on Friday, exactly nine years after its original release.

The songs from the album played during the first Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Texas Rangers World Series game.

A video posted by sports anchor Pat Doney on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has gathered nearly 80,000 views and 1,300 likes as of 9 p.m. Friday, only one hour after being posted.

Stunning home run ties it in the 9th, sending it to extra innings

Trailing 5-3, Corey Seager crushed a two-run homer off Arizona Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie things up at Globe Life Field and sent the game to extra innings.

Seager, who signed with the Texas Rangers before the 2022 season, was the 2020 World Series MVP playing at his future home ballpark.

Ketel Marte's stolen base wins everyone free Taco Bell

America, meet your new "Taco Hero": Ketel Marte.

The Arizona Diamondbacks' second baseman stole the first base of the 2023 World Series in Game 1 of the Fall Classic against the Texas Rangers, becoming the latest baseball star to "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" by giving everyone in the country the chance to score a free taco.

Marte stole second base easily off Nathan Eovaldi in the top of the third inning with the Diamondbacks up 3-2.

An American tradition that began in 2007, Marte became the 12th "Taco Hero" in MLB history. Marte will also hope the honor will bring good luck to the Diamondbacks, as the team the "Taco Hero" was on has gone 8-3 in the World Series.

'So proud': Diamondbacks fans gather in downtown Phoenix to watch World Series Game 1

It was a "lifelong dream" for Raina Pearson, an Arizona native, to see the Diamondbacks play at the World Series.

"I'm so excited they made it this far. The last time they made it was when I was 6," Pearson said. "I was incredibly thrilled, and that's an understatement. I'm so proud to be an Arizona native."

Pearson came to Majerle's Sports Grill in downtown Phoenix on Friday night to watch the game with her boyfriend, Cole Martin, who became a Diamondbacks fan after moving to Arizona in 2021.

Both Pearson and Martin said they were worried in the first minutes of the game when the Texas Rangers took the lead, but they were excited about the turnaround through the game.

"It started pretty poorly, but it's going really well now," Martin said. "I think the Diamondbacks will win for sure."

Max Sylvester, who also came to watch the game on Friday night with his girlfriend and about half a dozen friends, said he has been a Diamondbacks fan since he moved to Arizona to study at Arizona State University six years ago.

"(The team) wasn't really great when I moved here in 2017, but they've really come around, and this postseason was really good for the team," he said.

Sylvester said he attended a Diamondbacks vs. Texas Rangers game at Chase Field during the regular season. He said he felt enthusiastic when the Diamondbacks made it to the World Series.

"First time since '01. It was a great thing to see, and the Phillies going down makes it even," Sylvester said.

Sylvester said he considered buying tickets to the World Series home games when they were about $300 prior to Game 7 against the Phillies. Now, he said he is rethinking it after ticket prices soared drastically.

"We'll see I might still send it out there for one of the games, but that's gonna be a pinch in the pocket, so we'll see," he said.

Pearson and Martin, too, made it to quite a few Diamondbacks games during the regular season, back when tickets were about $15, Martin said.

They said they also considered going to the World Series games, but now they made plans to go out of town as tickets reached sky-high prices.

Yet, they said they will support the team unwaveringly as they play in the next few days.

"I am so proud of the boys taking the lead, and I can't wait to see them close it out with a win," Pearson said.

Arizona fans react to DBacks comeback

In Game 1 of the World Series, the Arizona Diamondbacks found themselves trailing 2-0 early in the first inning following an RBI from Evan Carter and Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers. However, the Diamondbacks have displayed a pattern seen often in this postseason, as they initiated a comeback.

This early-game comeback by the Diamondbacks on X (formerly known as Twitter) generated excitement among Arizona fans, who showed their enthusiasm for their team's resurgence.

Despite playing in the opposing team's home stadium at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the Arizona Diamondbacks managed to score three runs in the top of the third inning. This was accomplished with two RBIs contributed by potential NL Rookie of the Year Corbin Carroll and National League Championship Series MVP Ketel Marte.

Texas managed to level the score at three runs each after Arizona's star pitcher, Zac Gallen, walked a batter in the third inning, resulting in a run. However, the Diamondbacks maintained their composure in the fourth and fifth innings. During this time, Gallen allowed only one hit, and the team extended their lead with a home run from Tommy Pham and another RBI by Ketel Marte.

Arizona fans were ecstatic when their team was able to take the lead again.

Arizona led Texas 5-3 in the ninth inning.

Tommy Pham home run gives DBacks another lead

ARLINGTON, Texas Game 1 of the World Series is starting to resemble a tennis match. Tommy Pham was the latest to strike a blow for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

He hit a Nathan Eovaldi pitch into the left field seats leading off the top of the fourth inning, putting Arizona back in front, 4-3. Eovaldi could not deliver a shutdown inning after the Rangers tied it in the bottom of the third on Mitch Garver's bases-loaded walk.

Perhaps they will rue not doing any more damage at that point, as Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen got Jonah Heim to fly softly to center field, leaving the bases loaded.

Tommy Pham’s homer puts Diamondbacks back in front

ARLINGTON, Texas — Tommy Pham led off the top of the fourth inning by blasting a solo home run to left field, giving the Diamondbacks back the lead they lost a half-inning earlier.

The Diamondbacks lead, 4-3, going to the bottom of the fourth.

For Pham, the home run was his third of the postseason and second in his past three games. He drilled a 1-0 pitch from Eovaldi, an inside splitter, out to left field. Pham struck out in his first at-bat, swinging through a pair of splitters.

The teams have now scored in three consecutive half-innings.

Downtown Phoenix has changed a lot since 2001, the Diamondbacks' last World Series appearance

Downtown Phoenix has seen some big changes since the Arizona Diamondbacks were last in the World Series in 2001.

Here’s a big one! In 2006, the downtown area gained Arizona State University’s Downtown Campus, which hosts its journalism, nursing and criminal justice programs.

A few more will show you how much time has passed:

  • Japanese Friendship Garden: The Japanese stroll garden with tea house opened in 2002.

  • Phoenix Children’s Museum: The facility was renovated and opened in 2008.

  • Phoenix Convention Center (formally known as Civic Plaza)/Symphony Hall: Renovations took place in 2009 to connect the two facilities.

  • University of Arizona’s College of Medicine and Phoenix Bioscience Core opened in 2007.

Does Phoenix have enough water? City plans to use World Series platform to say 'yes'

For insiders at City Hall, the World Series is an opportunity to rebrand Phoenix's national water reputation and repair perceptions among out-of-state business leaders who may be doubting the city's sustainability.

Phoenix Water Adviser Cynthia Campbell stood in front of Chase Field the morning before Game 1 of the series.

"The Diamondbacks is not the only team in town with serious depth in its lineup. Phoenix water has a robust and diverse water resource portfolio, and a dedication to sustainable water management and conservation," Campbell told reporters Friday.

She went on to discuss the myriad sources of Phoenix water and how the city uses less water today than the Arizona Diamondbacks' last World Series in 2001, "even though we've added over 400,000 new residents during that time."

Diamondbacks respond, move in front vs. Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas — Corbin Carroll’s triple to center field drove home two runs, and he used his blazing speed to score the go-ahead run one batter later, giving the Diamondbacks a 3-2 lead over the Rangers in the top of the third inning of Game 1 on Friday night.

With two men aboard, Carroll stayed back on a 0-2 splitter from Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi and lined it toward left-center. Center fielder Leody Taveras raced to his right but was unable to cut it off, and Carroll easily made it to third with a two-run triple.

Ketel Marte followed by hitting a sharp grounder to first. Carroll broke for home immediately and beat the throw of first baseman Nathaniel Lowe. Lowe’s throw pulled catcher Jonah Heim slightly up the third-base line.

Barbecue, anyone? Arizona politician bets he's eating Lone Star State specialty

Rep. David Schweikert is joining the longtime congressional tradition of making a friendly wager related to the big game.

Schweikert, R-Ariz., made the bet with Rep. Roger Williams, R-Texas, who represents the district that includes the Rangers' stadium, Globe Life Field. The members of Congress are wagering iconic food items from each other's regions.

In the wager, if the Diamondbacks were to win the series, Williams would buy Schweikert Texas barbecue. If the Rangers were to win, Schweikert would buy Williams street tacos.

“With the D-backs on a roll, this friendly wager seemed like a no-brainer,” Schweikert said in a written statement. “I feel confident I'll be enjoying some delicious Texas barbecue after the Snakes come out on top when it's all said and done. Embrace the Chaos!”

Williams accepted the bet and said, "I’ll be ready to enjoy those street tacos from Congressman Schweikert when the Rangers take the series in six," in a statement.

Rangers grab early lead vs. Zac Gallen, DBacks

ARLINGTON, Texas — Evan Carter gave the Texas Rangers an early lead, lining a fastball from Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen into the right-center field gap to score Corey Seager in the bottom of the first inning. Adolis Garcia followed with a run-scoring hit of his own.

The Rangers lead, 2-0, in Game 1 of the World Series at Globe Life Field.

Gallen retired leadoff man Marcus Semien but walked Seager, then got to two strikes on Carter but could not put him away. Gallen’s 2-2 fastball caught too much of the middle of the plate and Carter drilled it for a double.

Garcia followed by hitting a 3-1 breaking ball from Gallen into left field for an run-scoring single. It was his 21st RBI of the postseason, tying David Freese's record set in 2011 for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Texas scored 20 runs in the final two games of its AL Championship Series win over Houston.

The Diamondbacks went down in order in the top of the first against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi.

Former Rangers owner George W. Bush throws first pitch

ARLINGTON, Texas – Twenty-two years after throwing out the first pitch at a World Series game in an emotionally charged appearance in post-9/11 New York, former President George W. Bush repeated the feat on far more familiar grounds.

Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch Friday night at Globe Life Field, just across the street from the stadium that rose as he served as managing general partner of the Texas Rangers from 1989-94, before the Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks played Game 1 of the 2023 Series.

The North Texas crowd greeted its former governor with chants of "USA!" Bush delivered a pitch from about 40 feet to baseball Hall of Famer Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez.

St. Mary’s hosts fundraising challenge for DBacks and Rangers fans

St. Mary’s Food Bank is extending its "Strike Out Hunger" campaign to raise additional funds as the World Series commences by challenging two Dallas-based food banks over who can generate more money to feed needy families.

The Phoenix-based food bank originally began the challenge in the National League Championship Series when it challenged the Philabundance food bank to see which side could raise more money from their respective fans.

St. Mary's is continuing the fundraising competition, this time against Dallas-area food banks North Texas and Tarrant. DBacks fans can donate to St. Mary’s at www.stmarysfoodbank.com.
