Diaper Drive For OC Rescue Mission: Help Fill An Urgent Need

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — There is a need among families with young children in Orange County that goes beyond food insecurity. Toddlers and young children living at Orange County Rescue Mission's Village of Hope only have enough diapers to last through the end of September, according to a recent outreach request. With so many of our readers asking how they can help in the time of coronavirus? This is one way you can help.

Perhaps your toddler has already given up the diapers. Maybe your cabinets still contain one or two bags of pull-up pants, or packages of baby wipes. Those items are in desperate need by the Village of Hope, supporting a large number of toddlers and young children who are living at Orange County Rescue Mission's transitional housing.

Orange County Rescue Mission has an urgent need for size 5 and 6 diapers, 3T-5T boys and girls pull-up pants, and baby wipes for its toddlers living at the Village of Hope.

The organization is seeking help from the local community to provide a combined total of more than 21,000 diapers, pull-up pants and wipes, which will provide a month’s worth of supplies lasting through September.

Donations have fallen significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Jim Palmer, President of Orange County Rescue Mission.

"The pandemic has been extremely difficult on our community, and donations are more critical now than ever before," says Palmer. "While diapers are a continuous need at the Rescue Mission, we are currently experiencing an alarming lack of diapers, pull-up pants and wipes for the toddlers and young children at our campus."

He explains that over the last few years there has been a dramatic increase in homelessness in Orange County, ultimately leading to a high number of residents, including young children at the Village of Hope.

"Over the last ten months, we have supplied approximately 210,000 diapers, pull-ups and wipes to the toddlers and young children currently residing at the Village of Hope," Palmer said.
This averages around a combined total 21,000 diapers, pulls ups and wipes per month. We are hoping for the community’s support in ensuring that these young children have the basic needs required to maintain their health and comfort."
