May 4—DICKINSON — The Western Dakota Association standings seem to change twice during every week, and Dickinson High School is trying to clarify matters. The Midgets are coming off a doubleheader road sweep on Tuesday over Bismarck Century, and the 4th (of May) might be with the young hardball paduans as they host Williston tonight at Astoria Field at 4:30 p.m.

Williston is coming off a split doubleheader with St. Mary's on Tuesday, winning 6-0 and losing 3-6, while DHS's wins came in at a resounding 10-2 and 9-6 over the Patriots earlier in the week.

But at press-time on May the Fourth, Dickinson High School is standing in the top-spot of the WDA with a 5-1 record in the conference and an .833 winning percentage. Bismarck Legacy and Jamestown are tied at second with 8-2 records, and Minot High is sitting in fourth at 6-2. DHS boasts a 7-4 record overall but has a non-conference 2-loss blemish on its record from April 28 away to the same Williston team the Midgets host tonight.

In Dickinson's Game 2 win over Century, meanwhile, the Patriots came out like gangbusters and scored 5 runs in the first inning and 1 more in the second to take a 6-1 lead after the Midgets scored on an RBI single from Jack Price that scored Jace Kovash, who ripped a leadoff double.

The Patriots 5-run first inning chased DHS starter Chase Selle from the game and he was replaced by Colin Tschetter, who came in and calmed DHS down with five innings of 2-hit ball to go along with 3Ks while only allowing a walk.

But in the meantime, Dickinson bided their time and struck in the top of the third to tie the game at 6-6. Camden Kubas scored on an error after a single to right, and Tschetter drove Jack Price home after Price doubled and advanced to third on another error. The Midgets then loaded the bases and Landon Olson doubled to left-field and scored Jadon Bast and Tschetter on the hit, then Kaeden Krieg scored on a sacrifice fly from Jeremiah Jilek to tie the game after Krieg was hit by a pitch and advanced around the bases on a series of plays.

The fifth inning was all-smiles for Dickinson, with a 3-run output that proved to be enough for the win in the nightcap. Bast walked and was tripled home by Tschetter's drive to center, and Jilek singled home Aidon Rodakowski and Krieg shortly thereafter to close out the scoring for both teams.

In Game 2, Jilek started and pitched seven innings of 2-hit ball, allowing no earned runs while fanning 4 and giving up no walks. The mound was steady all game, with Hunter Deschamp coming in at relief and holding the Patriots to only 1 hit while striking out 2 and giving up no walks.

With the bats, however, the Midgets did some serious damage, as Kovash went 3-for-4 with 2 runs and an RBI and Tschetter went 2-for-5 with 3 runs and an RBI. Krieg and Seibel each went 2-for-3 in Game 1, combining for 5 runs and 2RBI, while the basepaths also were hot for DHS, as the team ripped off 10 total bags from the Patriots in the opener and kept the home-team scared and chasing smoke.
