Dickinson lose at home to Jamestown

Jan. 29—It was a game to move past for Dickinson after losing to Jamestown at home Friday night 86-65.

It was a defeat of overwhelming odds with a strong opponent and a short roster, but the Midgets came out and battled valiantly. Dickinson scored 65 points, which they haven't done since their victory over Watford City in December.

"That was probably one of the best offensive games we have had as a team," Dickinson head coach Devin Douglas said. "Our girls did a lot of really good things and I think we are going in the right direction. We just can't give up runs in the second half where we don't score for four-five minutes at a time."

Dickinson was down 14-4, but made a small rally to put the lead at reach at 21-18. In that run, the Midgets made a play off of a forced turnover where junior guard Emily Ash tipped the ball off a pass and sophomore forward Sadie Stevenson recovered the ball. Stevenson made a long pass to senior guard Reese Hauck for a layup.

The first half ended with Dickinson not too far behind at 40-32. Unfortunately for the home side, that lead would never come.

As loud as they were, the Midgets could only whimper at a rally with shots consistently not connecting. The Blue Jays had 28 defensive rebounds and 41 total, all of which helped them extend their lead.

"The girls got to play with heart and go out there and box them out in order to even have a chance in that game," Douglas said."We did a good job for a while in the second half we just got to put a whole game together."

With 14 minutes remaining, Jamestown had an eight-point lead, but it would grow to 20 after six minutes. Even with the score at 64-44, the Midgets continued their cheers and chants.

"I thought our bench did really well," Douglas said. "Our bench tonight was loud. They were cheering. I loved it."

The final bucket was a 3-pointer to give Jamestown an 18-point lead with a minute still on the scoreboard. Dickinson continued to fight and threw up the final shot, but it would only be an attempt.

The Midgets leading scorer was Hauck with a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ash tallied 13 points. Stevenson had 12 points, two steals, four rebounds and a block.

"Sadie is finally starting to come into her game a little bit," Douglas said. "I think everybody honestly played really well. I can't say that anyone played badly at all. It was a really good team effort."
