A new Dick's Sporting Goods concept store is finally making its way to Arizona. What to expect

Another sporting destination is coming to the Valley as Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. recently acquired vacant land near Glendale’s Westgate Entertainment District where it will reportedly expand its new concept next year called Dick’s House of Sport.

Dick's Sporting Goods said the House of Sport is coming to Arizona in 2025, but couldn't share additional details, a company spokesperson confirmed in an email to The Arizona Republic on Tuesday.

The national retailer has already debuted the concept in Illinois, Minnesota, New York, and Texas. In addition to the store's usual athletic products, it will feature a rock wall, golf hitting bays and cages to practice baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, and even hockey.

House of Sport locations include services for golfers to tune, fit or regrip clubs and technicians for bicycle repair. Baseball players can also get their gloves steamed and custom-shaped, or test bats in the HitTrax batting cage.

The company’s purchase of roughly 11 acres of vacant land on the southwest corner of Loop 101 and Maryland Avenue for $10.6 million was first reported by the Phoenix Business Journal.

Dick’s plans of bringing House of Sport to Arizona comes as Scheels, another popular sporting goods retailer based in the Midwest, recently opened its first location in the state.

The new Scheels store in Chandler, which occupies 220,000 square feet of space in the Chandler Fashion Center, gives shoppers a chance to find their favorite athletic gear and wear, including an Arizona Cardinals fan shop.

It’s also a family-friendly destination featuring arcade games, sports simulators, a saltwater aquarium, a wildlife mountain and a Ferris wheel. Scheel’s visitors can also fuel up at the Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory or Ginna’s Café.
