Dickson City man convicted on drug, weapons charges
Apr. 22—A Dickson City man awaits sentencing after his conviction on drug and weapons charges in Lackawanna County Court.
Victor Alfonso Nieves-Crespo, 33, 721 Albert St., was found guilty Wednesday on possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and two firearms-related counts.
Jurors returned their verdict to Judge Margaret Bisignani Moyle around 4 p.m. to conclude a three-day trial.
Dickson City police arrested Nieves-Crespo on the evening of July 3 during a traffic stop at Main and Mary streets.
At the time, officers were investigating a report of a man having pointed a gun at another person outside Main Street Bistro before fleeing in a vehicle police learned was registered to Nieves-Crespo.
During the traffic stop, Nieves-Crespo acknowledged there was a gun under the driver's seat of the vehicle, police said. When officers retrieved the weapon, a 45-caliber handgun, they also found a clear plastic bag containing several grams of cocaine under the seat.
Because of a prior felony conviction, Nieves-Crespo is barred from owning or possessing a gun, police said.
In addition to the drug charge, the jury convicted him of prohibited possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license.
Moyle set no date for sentencing.
