How did the carne asada tacos at Taco Naco rate in this hunt for the perfect taco?

At the suggestion of my editor, who had given me a card from Taco Naco, a local eatery known for its Mexican cuisine, I decided to visit. It seemed that I had previously shared my struggle in finding good tacos when I first moved to the area.
Intrigued by my editor’s suggestion, I decided to give Taco Naco in Westport a try.
As I stepped into the restaurant, I was immediately drawn to a captivating array of Mexican trinkets on display. Among them were vibrant serapes, traditional woven baskets and a striking painting of Frida Kahlo, the illustrious Mexican painter who occupies a cherished place in my heart and has profoundly influenced my journey as a visual journalist.
Adorning the restaurant’s walls were portraits of iconic figures, including Cantinflas, the beloved Mexican actor who holds a special significance due to my father’s influence, and Chavo del Ocho, a character from a cherished Mexican TV series I fondly watched alongside my father during my formative years.
These cultural references contributed to the restaurant’s dynamic and culturally rich atmosphere, providing a sense of homecoming. The presence of comforting Mexican food items not typically found in local grocery stores added to the restaurant’s allure. Mexican mercado bags provided an authentic touch, and the soothing sounds of Spanish music in the background completed the immersive experience.
Noticing a crowd of people, I thought, “This place must be special.” My anticipation grew as I placed my order and observed the meticulous care put into assembling the tacos, including the unique touch of a Mexican flag.
