Did Changing Sentiment Drive MMTC's (NSE:MMTC) Share Price Down A Worrying 60%?

It's nice to see the MMTC Limited (NSE:MMTC) share price up 22% in a week. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last half decade have been disappointing. The share price has failed to impress anyone , down a sizable 60% during that time. Some might say the recent bounce is to be expected after such a bad drop. Of course, this could be the start of a turnaround.

To paraphrase Benjamin Graham: Over the short term the market is a voting machine, but over the long term it's a weighing machine. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.

MMTC became profitable within the last five years. Most would consider that to be a good thing, so it's counter-intuitive to see the share price declining. Other metrics may better explain the share price move.

We don't think that the 1.6% is big factor in the share price, since it's quite small, as dividends go. In contrast to the share price, revenue has actually increased by a year in the five year period. So it seems one might have to take closer look at the fundamentals to understand why the share price languishes. After all, there may be an opportunity.
