Did you check your Powerball ticket? $50,000 winner bought ticket in Hagerstown
A Hagerstown man has claimed a $50,000 lottery prize, while the winner of a similar prize sold at a Hagerstown bar hadn't claimed their winnings as of Monday, according to the Maryland Lottery.
The Hagerstown man, a doughnut shop manager who is 35 years old, told the Lottery he hopes to use his winnings to buy his own food franchise some day.
The Lottery gives winners the option whether to release their names.
The other winner hasn't yet claimed $50,000 from a Powerball ticket bought Saturday at The Corner Pub at 158 S. Mulberry St. in Hagerstown, according to the Lottery.
The doughnut shop manager won the top prize via a $20 scratch-off — a $50,000 Cash instant ticket, purchased at 901 Liquors in Baltimore, according to a Maryland Lottery release. He knows the store owner and occasionally buys Lottery tickets there.
"I had to keep my cool until I left the store" because he told the Lottery he didn't want to attract attention, the release states.
It's not the first time he's won money through the Lottery.
He told the Lottery he won a small prize in 2019.
For the past year, he's only been playing instant ticket games.
901 Liquors will get a $500 bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the release states.
The $50,000 Cash game went on sale Dec. 29 with 160 top prizes, according to the Lottery. As of Monday, there were 146 top prizes remaining.
