Did Darth Vader move to New York? And is this his house? Zillow Gone Wild is curious
A unique house in the farming community of Ancram, New York, has caught the eye of a popular social media real estate page, but…they really don’t know what exactly to think of it.
It’s referred to as The Sleeve House thanks to it being “conceived as two elongated volumes, a smaller one sleeved inside a larger one,” the listing on Zillow.com describes, and it’s on the market for $2.275 million.
“Sitting alone atop and in the center of a vast clearing surrounded by lush forest with dramatic views of the Catskills in the distance and the lower, rolling hills of the Taconic range surrounding it, the Sleeve House is an uncompromised architectural masterpiece,” the listing says.
The two spaces inside are vastly different, with one between the inner and outer volumes, and the second being “more private and intimate.”
The first’s features include:
Heated floors
Living room
Fireplace
Dining room
Kitchen
Bathroom
The second’s features include:
Three bedrooms
Two bathrooms
Sheet rocked walls
Balconies
Altogether, the residence is 2,500 square feet and sits on nearly 46 acres.
Both the inside and the outside confused fans of Zillow Gone Wild, who really didn’t know if it was just a cool house, or something slightly different.
“What in the Delia Deetz is going on here?” one person asked, referring to Catherine O’Hara’s iconic character in “Beetlejuice.”
“Did a gutter guy build this one?” another person asked.
“While it is creative, this has got to be the coldest most unwelcoming home I’ve ever seen,” someone noted.
“As someone who prefers a mix of industrial, brutalist, and minimalist styles I love this. It’s unique, full of clean lines, and has fantastic light,” one person said.
“I think the house is still rendering.. please hold,” someone joked.
“I’m pretty sure someone from the Empire lives here. Possibly Darth Maul or maybe even Vader himself,” another joked, referencing “Star Wars.”
“Imagine how LOUD that place is! If someone walked in the front door wearing high heels, you’d hear it in the back bedroom. Drop a metal bucket down the stairs and you’d do a lot of damage to your ears!” one person said.
“Probably don’t say the name of any characters played by Michael Keaton,” another joked. “And certainly don’t say them three times.”
“This reminds me of those house decorating game apps and the rooms I’d design that I would never expect to exist in real life,” someone pointed out.
“Your sand crawler got stuck?” one person asked.
