U.S. News & World Report uses six factors to rank over 17,000 schools across the country: graduation rate; college readiness based on AP and IB exam scores; availability of college-level classes; state test scores; state assessment-based proficiency in core subjects like math, science, and English; and the performance of "underserved" minority populations like Black and Hispanic students.
U.S. News' report recently adjusted their methodology to account for how curriculums were impacted after the pandemic.
The closely watched annual rankings have been widely criticized for, among other things, favoring schools in affluent communities that regularly produce high test scores and graduation rates.
