BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Several active players from Louisiana will take the field this Major League Baseball season. The state doesn’t have an MLB team, but that doesn’t mean we’re short on homegrown talent.

We have compiled a list of the players from Louisiana who are currently listed on an MLB roster.

Pitchers and catchers recently reported to their camps in preparation for spring training. Spring training will begin Thursday, Feb. 22. Opening Day for the 2024 regular season will be Thursday, March 28, with all 30 major league teams in action.

JT Chargois

JT Chargois was born in Sulphur, Louisiana. Chargois was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the second round of the 2012 MLB Draft. The pitcher out of Rice University currently plays for the Miami Marlins.

J.P. France

J.P. France was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Houston Astros drafted France in the 14th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He attended college at Mississippi State University and is a pitcher for the Astros.

Hogan Harris

Hogan Harris was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. Harris is currently a pitcher for the Oakland Athletics. The Athletics drafted him in the third round of the 2018 MLB Draft.

Seth Lugo

Seth Lugo was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. Lugo is currently a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals. The New York Mets drafted him in the 34th round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

Wade Miley

Wade Miley was born in Hammond, Louisiana. Miley attended Southeastern Louisiana University. He is a pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers and posted a 3.14 ERA during the 2023 season.

Aaron Nola

Aaron Nola was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Nola is currently a starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. He attended Louisiana State University. The Phillies drafted Nola in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

Austin Nola

Austin Nola was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Nola is a catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers. He attended Louisiana State University. The Miami Marlins drafted Nola in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

Jace Peterson

Jace Peterson was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Peterson stayed close to home as he attended McNeese State University. He is currently a utility player for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The San Diego Padres selected Peterson in the 2011 MLB Draft.

Tanner Rainey

Tanner Rainey was born in Folsom, Louisiana. Rainey is currently a pitcher for the Washington Nationals. He went to college at West Alabama University. The Cincinnati Reds took Rainey in the 2015 MLB Draft.

Josh Smith

Josh Smith was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is currently an infielder for the Texas Rangers and was a member of the 2023 World Series champions. Smith attended Louisiana State University and was taken by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Travis Swaggerty
