What did Malcolm say about chickens coming home to roost?

A major civil rights leader once said something about the chickens coming home to roost, and never in the history of the American presidency has that sentiment been more appropriate.

The words were cold and callous when Malcolm X spoke them in 1963 a day after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in a Dallas motorcade, his warm blood and brains splattered on the back seat and on the first lady’s dress.

Today, not so much.

America awoke Friday to the sobering news that President Trump, after months of lies, inaction and mockery about COVID-19, has contracted the menacing virus that has wrecked the nation’s economy, wreaked havoc on families across the country and killed more than 200,000 of its residents.

“President Kennedy never foresaw that the chickens would come home to roost so soon,” the Muslim leader said in 1963. “Being an old farm boy myself, chickens coming home to roost never did make me sad; they always made me glad.”

Anyone who has ever wished this dreadful disease on President Trump is wrong. Period

Grow up.

But now that the president, and his wife, have tested positive, now is the proper moment to observe how much in life is about timing — or what some might call karma, or just the cyclical nature of going around and coming around.

This is the same president, after all, who has mocked mask wearers, undermined medical authorities, promoted unproven treatments and treated science like it’s voodoo.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19,” Trump tweeted just after midnight Frida. “We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

This is also the moment to remember that nearly 46,000 other Americans also tested positive for the disease on Thursday.

Trump was locked down in the White House residence just days after a raucous debate with former Vice President Joe Biden, whom he had ridiculed for limiting his campaign appearances.

Look who’s canceling appearances, now.

This was the same debate, remember, where Trump refused to denounce white supremacy, instead telling the Proud Boys to “stand back, and stand by.”

Meanwhile, how did Biden react to the news that the man he called a “fool” and a “clown” in the debate had contracted coronavirus?

With class, of course.

“Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery,” Biden tweeted. “We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family.”

Right-minded people want nothing bad to happen to the president. We just want the virus to end his campaign.
