When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (do we still call him that?) decided to step back from their royal duties, we imagine it was tough for Prince William and Kate Middleton not to take it a bit personally. Of course, William and Kate haven’t faced the same scrutiny and criticism that Harry and Meghan have — but it must still be odd to watch your brother and his wife publicly wash their hands of the life you’ve chosen to lead.
At any rate, our hearts leapt when we saw that William and Kate would be taking some time off from their royal duties to spend with their children. Maybe they were inspired by Harry and Meghan! But alas, the real reason is a hair more mundane — though extremely relatable.

Today The Duchess of Cambridge has taken her UK-wide #5BigQuestions survey to Northern Ireland and Scotland, starting with a visit to @TheArkOpenFarm in County Down, Northern Ireland. The #5BigQuestions Survey aims to spark a national conversation on the early years that will ultimately help bring about positive, lasting change for generations to come – visit the link in our bio to fill out the survey. At the farm The Duchess spoke with local parents and grandparents about their experiences of raising young children, and their thoughts on the early years. What we experience in our earliest years – from in the womb to the age of five – is instrumental in shaping our future lives. The Duchess has spent time meeting families across the country and hearing about the issues they face, in addition to speaking with academics, experts, organisations and practitioners. The ‘5 Big Questions on the Under 5s’ survey is designed to bring together the thoughts of as many people as possible – recognising that everyone has a role in ensuring strong, healthy foundations for the youngest in our society that will positively affect their lifelong outcomes. As it turns out, Kate and William are taking time off from their royal duties for a perfectly ordinary reason. Next week, Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be on their half-term break from Thomas’s Battersea, and the whole family is going away together for a week-long vacation, and some quality family time. According to E! News, The Cambridge couple reportedly takes this break every year to spend time with their children, and this year’s break will occur from February 17 to February 21.
We don’t yet know where Kate, William, and their brood will take this trip, but a strong contender is Anmer Hall, a country house on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate where the family enjoyed some R&R last December. We’re sure that isn’t Kate and William’s only country house property, though — so stay tuned for which estate they choose to visit.
