In a question to former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, at the Republican presidential debate in Milwaukee on Wednesday night, Fox News host and moderator Bret Baier said Milwaukee had "30 shootings" last weekend.

If he meant 30 victims, that figure is near-accurate, but Milwaukee actually had about half of 30 shootings.

It was a particularly violent weekend. Two mass shootings occurred and at least 26 people were injured and at least three people died in shootings.

Nine people were injured in a shooting late Saturday night in the 1400 block of West Burnham Street, police said. Six males and 3 females between ages 16 and 42 were shot — all the victims are expected to survive, police said. A 22-year-old Milwaukee man was taken into custody.

The next day, about a block away, four people were shot in the 1300 block of West Mitchell Street, police said. Three men and one woman were injured and suffered "serious injuries," police said. Their condition wasn't immediately available Wednesday night. A 22-year-old Milwaukee man was taken into custody.

Around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, 17-year-old Andrea Sanders was shot and killed on the 4400 block of West Hampton Avenue, police said. Milwaukee has had 18 children die by homicide this year.

On Monday, in a statement, Mayor Cavalier Johnson called the gun violence "entirely unacceptable" and said his thoughts are with the shooting victims, as well as their families and friends.

“I insist our criminal justice system fully prosecute and punish those responsible for this violence," Johnson said in the statement. "I am directing our Office of Violence Prevention to take every reasonable step to educate, intervene and mediate so that we can reduce the gun violence here."
