How did your neighborhood vote in the mayoral elections? Check it out with these maps
Idahoans took to the polls on Tuesday, voting on numerous municipal elections and ballot questions. For six cities, the biggest question on the ballot was the election, or reelection, of a mayor.
Notably, Boise residents voted Mayor Lauren McLean to a second four-year term over primary challenger Mike Masterson, while the vote for Eagle mayor will go to a runoff next month between incumbent Jason Pierce and challenger Brad Pike.
Meridian, Kuna, Star and Middleton also all held elections for mayor. Here’s how each race finished and which precincts voted for each candidate. You can click the hyperlink for each race to see specific vote totals for each precinct.
Incumbent McLean defeated Masterson without too much stress, taking an early lead as the polls closed and not seeing her vote percentage drop too much throughout the night. Candidates Joe Evans and Aaron Reis also combined for 1.2% of the total vote.
A total of 61,364 ballots were cast for the mayoral race, a 43.8% turnout, which outdid the expectation of 30-40%.
Pierce defeated then-Mayor Stan Ridgeway in the 2019 municipal election, and Ridgeway got only 26.5% of the vote this time.
But instead of a straightforward victory for Pierce, who garnered 35.5% of the vote, challenger Pike also picked up 31.4%, meaning a runoff election between the pair will happen next month.
A little over 10,000 ballots were cast for the Eagle mayoral election, a 43.1% turnout.
First-term Mayor Robert Simison will have another four years in office after easily defeating challenger Mike Hon.
Hon most notably led the charge last year to dissolve the Meridian Library District, claiming pornographic content was available to children.
In total, 18,671 ballots were cast for the Meridian mayoral race, a 26.9% turnout.
Two challengers took on incumbent Mayor Joe Stear, and neither could deny Stear a third term in office.
Bobby Rossadillo, president of the Kuna Chamber of Commerce and owner of Kuna Healthcare and MedSpa, and Cristin Sandu, owner of trucking company ISTICX, could not stop Stear from picking up 57.4% of the vote.
The Kuna mayoral election had a 27.7% turnout, with 3,762 residents turning out to vote.
In the Star mayoral race, which bleeds into Canyon County a tiny bit, incumbent Trevor Chadwick defeated political newcomer Michele Miles by a whopping 85% to 15% margin.
The following graph shows vote totals in Ada County. Chadwick won all 21 votes cast in Canyon County. Across both counties, 3,449 votes were cast, an approximate 38.4% turnout.
Middleton mayor
There is no graphic available for the Middleton mayoral race, but challenger Jackie Hutchinson comfortably defeated incumbent Mayor Steve Rule and fellow challenger Tyson Sparrow.
Hutchinson obtained 66.7% of the vote, beating out Rule’s 24.7% and Sparrow’s 8.5%.
