Sean Clifford did not receive an Ohio State offer

Even after leading St. Xavier to a state championship in 2016, Clifford never had the attention of Ohio State.

Clifford chose Penn State over 16 other programs that offered him: a 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback, who was the No. 8 pro quarterback in the 2017 class and the No. 7 prospect out of Ohio according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Clifford was offered by Akron, Auburn, Boston College, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse, Toledo, UCF and West Virginia.

In past meetings against Ohio State, Clifford completed 63 of his 99 pass attempts for 713 yards, throwing four touchdowns and two interceptions with 10 sacks.

“I don’t think that anybody is underestimating the moment,” Clifford said. “I think that everybody understands the magnitude of each week and the importance. Because in college football, one week can define your whole season.”
