Did Rihanna Just Make Bright Orange and Camo a Thing?

Rihanna's recent onslaught of winter street style looks has been especially colorful. This month alone saw the Fenty mogul wearing a bright-red parka (sans pants), a teal jersey with an orange-padded vintage Jean Paul Gaultier coat (sans pants), and now a bright-orange coat with pants—camo pants, to be precise.

The unlikely color combination appeared during an outing in New York City last night. The orange shearling knee-length coat was layered over a similarly shaded hoodie. For shoes, Rihanna opted for a pair of crystal-embellished pumps from the Gucci and Balenciaga Hacker Project, the 100th anniversary collection presented by Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele last year.

Michele had "hacked" Parisian fashion house Balenciaga, producing splashy monogrammed outerwear, suiting, and even accessories like bags, chain necklaces, and boots.

“Gucci becomes for me a hacking lab, made of incursions and metamorphoses,” Michele wrote in his show notes at the time, explaining that he has previously referenced houses other than Balenciaga. “I have plundered the nonconformist rigour of Demna Gvasalia and the sexual tension of Tom Ford; I have lingered over the anthropological implications of what shines, working on the brightness of fabrics; I have celebrated the equestrian world of Gucci transfiguring it into a fetish cosmogony; I have sublimated Marilyn Monroe’s silhouette and old Hollywood’s glamour; I sabotaged the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie and the codes of men’s tailoring.”

Rihanna also repped the collection earlier this month, when she embraced a logomania look that featured the project's monogrammed cocoon puffer gilet in beige, including brown canvas jacquard detailing, and a matching headscarf.
