🌱 Did Ye Throw A Punch? + White Rose Memorial For Betty White

Welcome back, Los Angeles, and happy National Strawberry Ice Cream Day! Here's everything you need to know to get this Saturday started off right.

Did Ye punch a man outside a L.A. club? Also, the Zoo has set up a white rose memorial garden for Betty White. Finally, thieves are stealing from cargo containers.

First, today's weather:

A brief shower or two. High: 70 Low: 55.

Here are the top five stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. Was Ye behaving badly? The LAPD is investigating the rapper, aka Kanye West, for “possible misdemeanor battery.” He allegedly punched someone Thursday morning, who then filed a police report, near the SoHo Warehouse, which is a club around South Santa Fe Avenue and Bay Street. (ABC)

  2. On Wednesday, the L.A. Zoo opened a white rose memorial garden in honor of Betty White. It will remain in place until the end of the month. This garden gives visitors an opportunity to leave messages and cards. By the way, there’s a self-guided “Betty’s L.A. Zoo Tour” you can take online. (CBS)

  3. Maybe it’s not the supply chain, but there were thieves raiding cargo containers around “a section of the Union Pacific train tracks in downtown.” We learned Thursday that they are taking “packages that belong to people from all over the country from retailers like Amazon, REI, and others.” Among the trash, investigators found COVID test kits. It appears that these thefts have been an ongoing problem. (CBS)

  4. The Los Angeles Art Show is scheduled to run from Wednesday through January 23. Taking place at the L.A. Convention Center South Hall, you’ll notice an emphasis on non-fungible tokens (NFTs). These were a focus last year during the annual event. (LA Mag)

  5. In addition to its Pasadena location, the HomeState Restaurant operates branches on West Jefferson Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard, West Waterfront Drive, and North Figueroa Street. We learned Friday that the restaurant has asked Vital Farms, which “offers a range of ethically produced foods nationwide,” to provide its pasture-raised eggs. “HomeState is a like-minded, mission-driven partner that values high-quality, ethically sourced ingredients and has a demonstrated passion for people, food, and community,” Vital Farms said.
