While no team from Los Angeles will be featuring in this year’s Super Bowl, that didn’t stop some fans from getting up early and getting ready for Sunday’s big games.
Kansas City Chiefs fans of all ages were seen outside Jalapeno Pete’s, a bar in Studio City, before it opened on Sunday morning, showing the dedication they have towards watching their team.
“I love the way [the Chiefs] play,” one young fan, who plays football himself, told KTLA 5’s Erin Myers.
More fans came pouring into the bar after it opened, with one woman telling Myers that Jalapeno Pete’s is the “best place to watch a Chiefs game.”
“There are so many fans here, there is so much love for the Chiefs here and it’s just an amazing atmosphere,” she said.
Two other fans, identified as Carol and Jamie, run the Chiefs Los Angeles fan group and said that hundreds are expected to show up at the bar in Studio City for the game.
“We’ve called Jalapeno Pete’s ‘Arrowhead West’ for the last seven years,” Carol said, referring to Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs’ home venue. “They treat us so well here.”
Jalapeno Pete’s even runs a special menu for Chiefs fans every week that includes items like “Mahomes Sliders,” “Tomahawk Fries” and the limited edition “Chief-a-rita.”
As for what fans think the Chiefs need to do to win, most had the same sentiment.
“I think a key to the game of course is containing [Ravens quarterback] Lamar Jackson … but I think our defense is really up to it,” Jamie said.
“They have to bring good defense and stop the quarterback [Lamar Jackson] on the run, because that’s basically what he does the best,” another Chiefs fan said.
Kickoff for the Chiefs-Ravens game is scheduled for noon Sunday.
On the other side of the playoff bracket, the San Francisco 49ers will host the Detroit Lions — who are looking to reach the first Super Bowl in team history — for the chance to play the winner of Chiefs-Ravens in the Super Bowl.
The big game will take place on Feb. 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
