'A difficult decision': Holiday in Lights put on hold due to rising electricity costs

A long-running Greater Cincinnati holiday light display has been put on hold, with the company that organizes the event citing increased electricity costs.

Organizers say the decision to pause the 2023 Holiday in Lights Show and accompanying 5K is meant to allow them and the Warren County Park District an opportunity to reexamine plans going forward.

A nearly four times increase in the cost of powering the lights "has made the current way of doing things unsustainable," according to a Facebook post by the West Chester Township-based Alleen Company.

"This was a difficult decision since we know this has been a holiday tradition for 33 years and we appreciate your understanding at this time," the company said.

Prior to moving to Armco Park in Turtlecreek Township last year, the annual drive-thru event featuring hundreds of lights on display had long been hosted at Sharon Woods.

Great Parks of Hamilton County officials attributed the loss of Holiday in Lights to a decline in recent years and a contract expiring with the Alleen Company.
