Dighton-Rehoboth bounces back from loss with big win over Bishop Feehan

NORTH DIGHTON— Dighton-Rehoboth softball is back to their winning ways.

Just a day after a 17-3 loss to Apponequet, the Falcons bounced back Saturday morning with a big 3-2 non-league win over Bishop Feehan to improve to 6-3 on the season.

"Yesterday was a real humbling loss," D-R coach Katie Holmes said. "Apponequet came out and played a fantastic game and Lauren (Bernaiche) pitched lights out. After having a super active offense these past couple games, it was a real wake up call. I was really proud of these girls to come back a completely different team than yesterday."

In the circle, Hannah Carey earned the win after going three perfect innings while Kylie Hillier tossed the final four, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three. On the opposite end for the Shamrocks, Mylee Ramer took the loss after going six innings giving up a three runs on six hits while striking out six and led the way for Feehan at the plate, going two-for-three with a run and an RBI.

Leading the way at the plate for the Falcons was Madelyn Kelley, who went two-for-three with a run while Haleigh Kelley went one-for-two with a run, Cam Cloonan went one-for-three with a run and both Caleigh Cloonan and Morgan Corey went one-for-two with an RBI, with the latter also forcing five putouts on the field at third.

The Falcons struck first in the bottom of the second as Haleigh Kelley reached first after being hit by a pitch and avanced to third on a single by Madelyn Kelley before Corey and Caleigh Cloonan drove them both in on back-to-back RBI singles. The Falcons added another run in the third as Emma Horrocks drove home Cam Cloonan after she led the inning off with a double.

Feehan were able to get a run in both the fifth and sixth innings before Hillier shut the Shamrocks down in the top of the seventh to seal the deal for D-R.

"Our defense was incredible today led by our pitching," Holmes said. "We had some key timely hits today so it was nice to see a win that was led by singles and doubles and defense."

The Falcons return to action Monday as they head down to South Coast Conference rivals Greater New Bedford for a rematch of last year's Division III semifinal.
