JESSICA KARTAliJA: I'm Jessica Kartalija with your evening Digital News Brief for Wednesday, April 14th. Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting in East Germantown. It happened around 4:00 this morning on the 2100 block of Furley Street. Police say a man was found shot multiple times in a Jeep. He was taken to the hospital where he died. No word yet on a motive, and the suspect remains at large.

A Philadelphia police officer accused of stealing cash during a drug raid is now charged with lying about it to investigators. Prosecutors say that Michael Kennedy took the money that was sitting on a nightstand. Then, he allegedly lied about it to police and the FBI. Kennedy is also accused of obstructing justice by telling another officer to lie about the incident. If he's convicted, he faces up to 55 years in prison. The police commissioner just suspended Kennedy and plans to fire him.

Disgraced financier Bernie Madoff has died at a federal prison in North Carolina apparently from natural causes. Madoff was convicted of orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history. He admitted to swindling thousands of clients out of billions of dollars in investments over the decades. Last year, Madoff's lawyers tried unsuccessfully to get the 82-year-old released from prison during the pandemic saying that he suffered from chronic medical conditions.
