Dillard boys and girls sweep BCAA track and field championships

On a mission to win its second state title in three seasons, the Dillard boys secured the BCAA track and field team championship at Blanche Ely High School.

Meanwhile, the Panthers girls, who have been inching closer to one in recent years, dominated the field to win a team championship as well.

Dillard’s boys edged Boyd Anderson 72.5 to 63 for the team title and were led by senior Chris Johnson, who took home championships in the 100 meters (10.85 seconds) and 200 meters (21.30). Johnson, a University of Miami signee and running back on Dillard’s football team, was also part of the Panthers’ winning 1,600-meter relay team (3:19.76). The Panthers won the 3,200-meter relay in 8:09.87 as well. Edward Louis was Dillard’s lone champ in the field events, winning the long jump with a jump of 23-feet, 5.5-inches.

Christiana Coleman was the Dillard girls’ top performer with championships in the 1600 meters (5:12.56) and 3200 meters (11:37.40). Coleman helped the Panthers score 175 points to finish comfortably ahead of runner-up Cardinal Gibbons’ 79. Coleman was also a part of Dillard’s 3,200-meter relay team, which won the title in 9:29.34.
