Dillon Brooks picked up his 18th technical foul on Monday night when the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Dallas Mavericks 112-108.

Brooks received the technical foul when he was making a cheerleading signal with imaginary pom-poms in the direction Mavs forward Theo Pinson, who was on the bench.

“I just wanted to let him know he's a cheerleader," Brooks said. "Same class, I grew up watching him play. He was a great player. Now he gets paid to cheerlead."

Pinson and Brooks were in the same recruiting class and faced off in the 2017 NCAA Final Four when Pinson's North Carolina Tar Heels defeated Brooks' Oregon Ducks.

The NBA created new bench rules for the 2022-23 season that stated players are not able to remain standing at or away from the bench area.

"(Pinson) was standing up on the bench," Brooks said. "He should be sitting down."
