Dillon Pendergast eighth, Abbie Retherford 10th at OHSAA state golf tournaments

SUNBURY ― Mogadore senior Dillon Pendergast is tied for eighth place after the first day of the OHSAA boys Division III state golf championships at Northstar Golf Club on Friday.

Pendergast, playing in the state tournament for the third time, shot 7-over par 79 and is tied with Charlie Mullin of Cincinnati Seven Hills.

Rocco Turner of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney is the 18-hole leader with 74, followed by Brogan Sullivan of Newark Catholic and Cameron Phillips of Lucasville Valley with 75s.

The team leader is Newark Catholic with 325, followed by Seven Hills (337) and Delphos St. John's (343).

The tournament resumes Saturday at 9 a.m.

Abbie Retherford of Ravenna is 10th in the Division II girls state golf finals

COLUMBUS ― Senior Abbie Retherford of Ravenna is tied for 10th place at the OHSAA girls Division II state golf championships at the Ohio State Golf Club Gray Course.

After 18 holes of play Retherford shot a 10-over par 80 and is tied with Lydia Dietz of Botkins, Eliza Freytag of Columbus Academy and Siena Maschke of Shaker Heights Laurel, four shots behind the leaders.

There is also a four-way tie for first place, as Angela Hu of Columbus Academy, Sammi Miller of Sugarcreek Garaway, Ella Wong of Gates Mills Hawken and Hope Manning of South Charleston Southeastern also scored 76s.

Columbus Academy leads the team scoring with a 317, followed by Garaway (337) and Van Buren (347).

The tournament's final round begins at 9 a.m. Saturday.
