Dine Savannah: Lowcountry boil...Cheerwine glaze? A restaurant is re-defining local seafood

Good morning, Dine Savannah readers! It has been a minute. A long minute. But good things come to those who wait because you're in for a treat with this week's newsletter.

Dine Savannah freelance reporter N.W. Gabby visited Rhett (412 Williamson St.) a couple of weeks ago to get the inside scoop on its menu — unveiled in April by executive chef Javier Hernandez and his culinary crew — that has upped the ante on its surf fare offerings, intentionally tying Rhett more to its coastal context.

I see seafood and I'm sold, so I took two other food enthusiasts with me to try a variety of menu items.

Two words: Cheerwine glaze. I'm still dreaming about the creamy she-crab soup and fluffy Cheerwine-glazed biscuits. To see more menu items and follow along with our dining experience, watch my latest Instagram reel on my food page @laura.thefoodexplorer and a reel from Dine and Dash host Martina Yvette @a_dashofthat.

Martina also visited the latest restaurant in Eisenhower Shopping Plaza, The Narra Tree. The restaurant is bringing flavors of the Philippines to what might be Savannah's most diverse square of restaurants. Check it out as she eats all the lumpia and chicken adobo her heart desires here. Also, read about it in one of my latest dining updates, and stay tuned for a feature highlighting the different markets and restaurants in the plaza.

The Culturist Union recently opened in April and has been serving up coffee, good vibes, and one-of-a-kind artisan items created by local artists. In this economic climate, running a business can prove tough, something owner Elbi Elm has expressed. But the community has continued to show up and show out, supporting the Black-owned coffee shop. If you want to support as well, head on over to 3129 Bull St. as they host plenty of weekly activities.

Because I'll never cheat you all on the visuals, here's an Instagram reel of The Culturist Union.

If you have a favorite place to eat in the greater Savannah area, let me know about it and why it is so special. I want to hear from you all so send your information to LNwogu@gannett.com for the chance to be featured.
