Diner known for giant pancakes opens location in Greece

The Great American Diner has opened its second location, just south of Greece Athena Middle and High School on Long Pond Road in Greece.

The first location began as an Original Steve's Diner in Whitney Town Center in Fairport. But owner Brian O'Reilly parted ways with that brand in the spring and overnight converted it into a Great American Diner.

The diner offers an extensive menu of classic American breakfast and lunch fare. For breakfast, it serves a variety of oversized pancakes as well as French toasts, waffles, omelets, Benedicts and breakfast sandwiches. Lunch offerings include salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and melts.

O'Reilly was chef at Michael's Valley Grill in Penfield from 2001 to 2018. "I ended up having a family and was tired of working nights," he said. The diner's hours gave him a chance to spend time with his children.

The food is prepared daily using fresh ingredients like whole eggs and potatoes. Some of his unique additions to the menu include chorizo hash and a pork chop dinner. The restaurant will soon release a new fall menu that will include pumpkin and apple flavors.

O'Reilly owns the Fairport location; he is co-owner in Greece along with Angelo Valente and Tony DeRosa. Valente is the owner operator in Greece.

The Greece location was perfect for the diner, said DeRosa. It was previously home to the casual restaurant Happy Days On The Go, which made for an easy transition to another eatery. The new location seats 130, which is slightly larger than in Fairport.

"We felt like Greece was a perfect fit," DeRosa said. The area has a dense population and the street has a lot of traffic. The partners plan more locations of the diner in the future.

It is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Takeout is available, and online ordering will be offered soon. Call 585-363-5443.
