From prehistoric creatures to classic rock tributes, summer art or beachside soirees, there are plenty of options for fun this weekend in Volusia and Flagler counties.

Here are five promising ideas for things to do this weekend:

Dinosaurs rule the Ocean Center

Kid-friendly dinosaurs will roam Ocean Center in Daytona Beach this weekend when the popular Jurassic Quest dinosaur experience returns for a three-day run starting Friday in Daytona Beach.

Touted as the No. 1 dinosaur experience in North America, the kid-friendly event features an array of mammoth animatronic dinosaurs that roar, move and even wander the exhibit-hall floor.

There will be the chance for budding paleontologists to hop a ride atop one of the prehistoric creatures, play inside themed bounce houses, create arts and crafts, dig for fossils or play with baby dinos.

Exhibit hours are noon-8 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday at the county-run convention center, 101 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach.

Standard admission for adults and children ages 2-10 is $22, not including taxes and fees. It includes dinosaur exploration, arts and crafts participation, interaction with a baby dinosaur and a walking dinosaur show. Additional rides and activities require activity tickets available for $6 at the event.

More classic rock at the Bandshell

The popular weekly lineup of tribute-band concerts continues this weekend at the Daytona Beach Bandshell.

Here’s what’s on tap:

On Friday, Nuthin' Fancy, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute act, will be featured at the weekly “Sounds of Summer” concert series sponsored by the City of Daytona Beach.

On Saturday, the Bandshell will host another of the weekly “Star Spangled Summer” concert series shows featuring Loverboy Tribute, REO Survivor + Chicago Rewired, a trio of bands offering homage to Loverboy, REO Speedwagon and Chicago.

The 7:15 p.m. concert will be followed by fireworks over the beach at 9:45.

'Endless Summer' art opening in New Smyrna Beach

Artistic visions that channel the spirit of the season will be celebrated at an opening reception for the “Endless Summer” art exhibit on Saturday at the Arts On Douglas gallery at 123 Douglas Ave. in New Smyrna Beach.

Now in its 11th year, the “Endless Summer” exhibit features work by 32 Florida artists, a roster that includes 19 artists represented by the gallery as well as a juried selection of 13 guest artists culled from nearly 70 entries.

The result is a show that represents styles and media that range from painting, collage, photography, ceramics and blown glass to jewelry.

The Saturday reception runs from 4-7 p.m. and will feature light refreshments and live music by a jazz trio. The exhibit runs through Sept. 23. Visit artsondouglas.net for more information.

A good day to visit a lighthouse

It’s National Lighthouse Day on Saturday, an occasion that will be celebrated with special activities at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum in Ponce Inlet.

More than 250 years of American lighthouse history will be honored with a slate of family-friendly activities that include living history interpretations, hands-on workshops and kids’ crafts at the museum 4931 S. Peninsula Drive in Ponce Inlet.

Of course, there also will be opportunities to tour and climb the 175 feet to the top of Ponce DeLeon Inlet Lighthouse, the state’s tallest lighthouse.

The Lighthouse Day activities run from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and are included with the museum’s regular admission of $6.95 for ages 12 and older; $1.95 for ages 3-11; free for age 2 and younger.

Celebrate First Friday in Flagler Beach

All the quirky charms of downtown Flagler Beach will be on display at the monthly First Friday celebration this weekend at Veterans Park at the hub of State Roads 100 and A1A.

The event offers a combination of beachy vibe, shopping and dining opportunities and live music, provided this weekend by Pat D'Aguanno's Duplicity. It runs from 6-9 p.m. Free admission.
