'DinwiddieCo Sheriff' app goes online to help residents share crime tips, other info

DINWIDDIE – Need to share crime info the county sheriff’s office but do so anonymously? There’s an app for that now.

On Monday, Dinwiddie County rolled out the “DinwiddieCo Sheriff” app for mobile devices. By clicking on that app, Dinwiddie residents and others will be able to anonymously submit crime tips and get 24/7 access to information regarding county law enforcement.

An announcement from the county called DinwiddieCo Sheriff the latest in the sheriff’s “crime-fighting arsenal.”

“Our mission, through a partnership with the citizens of our community, is to provide the highest possible degree of protection for the County residents, guests and their properties,” Sheriff D.T. “Duck” Adams said in the announcement. “We’ve been working on this for a few months now, and I am happy to see it finally go live. Our office relies heavily on tips from the public, and this is another way for citizens to help us fight crime in Dinwiddie County.”

The app was developed by tip411, a software company that serves more than 1,400 law-enforcement and other government agencies across the U.S.

In its announcement, Dinwiddie called the crime tips submitted through the app “100% anonymous.”

“The technology removes all identifying information before deputies see the tips and there is no way to identify the sender,” the announcement read.

The app is free to download and is available through the iTunes App Store, Google Play or the Dinwiddie Sheriff’s website.

If you do not have a smartphone, you can still take advantage of the new service by texting DCSOTIP, followed by your tip, to 847411 (tip411).
