A New Direction: For students at JCPS' 'bad' schools, a chance to rewrite the narrative

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Courier Journal's first serial podcast is back with an update.

This new episode of "A 'Bad' School" finds Iroquois High School senior Zyrann Hibbitt on graduation day — a milestone he wasn't sure he'd ever accomplish after being denied admission to duPont Manual High, a prestigious magnet school, four years ago.

Zyrann has much to look forward to, but challenges remain.

There's a shakeup at Iroquois' culinary program, which has caused Zyrann to reconsider his future plans. And on graduation day, he doesn't seem to be his usual self.

Meanwhile, Jefferson County Public Schools is on the brink of embarking on a historic new direction for student assignment.

Will the new plan make a difference for "bad" schools like Iroquois?
