Squid Game,” a satirical show that became a global phenomenon last year, is becoming the subject of another satirical show exploring its overnight success. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, the mastermind behind the 2021 Netflix hit, said he is in the early stages of development for the meta-satire production.

Hwang told Deadline that the project, provisionally titled “The Best Show on the Planet,” is still too young to have the details configured. All he revealed was that it’s a satirical comedy based on his own experiences of being catapulted into international stardom when “Squid Game” took over the world.

Apart from this latest revelation, the director is working on two other projects: a “violent” film inspired by the works of Italian essayist Umberto Eco and, of course, the highly anticipated second season of “Squid Game.”

Hwang is aiming to have the latter out by Halloween of 2024, though he’s repeatedly admitted to the huge pressure he’s faced as the world eagerly awaits what is to come. Netflix has not yet officially greenlit Season 2, as per Deadline.
