John Singleton’s condition is worse than initially reported.

The 51-year-old director behind films including Boyz n the Hood, Poetic Justice and 2 Fast 2 Furious was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. last week after falling ill after a trip to Costa Rica. While under medical care, he suffered a stroke, which had been described as “mild,” but it apparently wasn’t.

His mother, Sheila Ward, filed legal documents obtained by The Blast in which she asks to be named his conservator and “make all medical decisions” for him.

Ward stated that Singleton “suffered a major stroke” and “is currently hospitalized in a coma and is unable to provide for his personal needs.”

Singleton’s mom is making the move due to a “financial emergency.” It said that the movie maker was “engaged in several business projects” when he had the stroke that she must address — as well as “make medical decisions” for him.

There was physician’s declaration with the documents, according to the report, that stated Singleton was suffering from “major impairment to motor skills and psychological functions, including his ability to reason logically.”

While hospitalized, Singleton suffered a stroke on April 17 — and although he was in the I.C.U, the word that was put out was that his stroke is “mild.” Nonetheless, his celebrity friends — including Snoop Dogg and Spike Lee — have been offering up prayers for him and encouraging others to as well.

A judge hasn’t yet ruled on Ward’s request.
