Disabled cruise ship Carnival Triumph leaves Alabama port for repairs in the Bahamas
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- The Carnival Triumph is headed back to sea three months after limping into port following an engine room fire.
The cruise ship left the Alabama Cruise Terminal in Mobile under its own power Wednesday after extensive work to repair damage from the fire.
Miami-based Carnival says Triumph is headed to Freeport, Bahamas, for more repairs and upgrades.
It's supposed to return to service June 13 with a cruise from Galveston, Texas.
The Triumph was towed into Mobile on Feb. 14. A Gulf of Mexico cruise turned into a nightmare after the fire. Passengers spent five days aboard the disabled ship in sometimes squalid conditions.
During an April storm, Triumph broke loose from its mooring at a repair yard. A dock worker died after being swept into the water.
