DiSalvo, Garcia win SPC songwriting contest

LEVELLAND — The Commercial Music Department at South Plains College recently hosted a songwriting contest for aspiring artists in the West Texas area, naming winners in a high school division and adult division.

The winners were Noah Garcia of Frenship in the high school division and JoJo DiSalvo in the adult division. Both winners will perform their songs on May 4 during Fest Week in the Tom T. Hall Studio.

The event was created for the purpose of cultivating original music in the surrounding area and encouraging young songwriters to create, while also aiding in recruitment.

Entrants submitted an audio recording of their songs, which were judged by a panel of professional songwriters.

The winners each received a prize package courtesy of the event’s sponsors: a professional logo design by Casita Creative, custom guitar strap from Pale Son Leather, a performance in the Cactus Theater, merch from Johnny Velvet, recording at Mount Vernon Studios and a spot at LEPAA's Buddy Holly Songwriter Retreat.
