'Disaster Waiting to Happen': Heavy Rain Floods British Columbian Highway

Heavy rain brought on by an atmospheric river caused mudslides and flooding on multiple provincial highways in southern British Columbia, authorities said on Monday, November 15.

Footage posted on November 14 by the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure of British Columbia shows a part of Highway 5 inundated.

They warned drivers that multiple highways, including Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt remained closed for Monday.

Rainfall warnings were in place in Metro Vancouver, western Fraser Valley, Whistler, Howe Sound, and parts of the Sunshine Coast, with up to 250 mm (9.8 inches) of rain expected by Monday afternoon.
