The Robert E. and Jenny D. Kirkland Discovery Awards Gala and Fundraiser will bring together thought leaders, policymakers, philanthropists and others to celebrate the winners, all of whom have deep roots in West Tennessee. The 2022 Robert E. and Jenny D. Kirkland Discovery Award winners are Anita Kay Archer, Lt. Gen. John “Glad” Castellaw USMC (Ret.), Dr. Ron Kirkland and Jerry Reese.

Entertainment for the cocktail party will be Terry Mike Jeffrey. Jeffrey is an Emmy-nominated singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who has performed all over the world. A unique entertainer singing musical styles from most genres all of his life, Terry Mike is especially known world-wide for his presentation of Elvis Presley’s music. In recent years he has performed the king of rock ‘n’ roll’s songs with symphony orchestras across the country, including those in Detroit, Jacksonville, Birmingham, Denver, St Louis and Knoxville. Jeffrey has also performed live with Jewel, The Chicks, Travis Tritt, Jerry Lee Lewis, Juice Newton, BJ Thomas, Ricky Skaggs, Leon Russell and many others. A popular performer in Tennessee, he has been featured in 5 concerts with the Nashville Symphony, and 17 concerts fronting the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. He also sings and performs shows regularly at the Badgett Playhouse Theater in Grand Rivers, KY.

Friday

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Lights Up! Theatre Co. is presenting its production of the book created by Roald Dahl at Community Montessori. Performances will be held on March 4 at 7 p.m., and on March 5 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. You can buy your tickers https://www.lightsuptheatreco.com/tickets.

Hub City Flea Market: Monthly flea markets in Jackson are back. Jackson’s Hub City Flea Market will open the first weekend of March (March 4, 5, & 6). The flea market will still be held at the Jackson Fairgrounds. For the 2022 season, the flea market will be held on the first weekend of each month. Phone number and website coming soon. Reelfoot Lake Eagle Festival: Mark your calendar for this weekend to explore Reelfoot Lake. A family friendly weekend. There are 40 nesting resident eagles and they have been seeing up to 70 eagles a day. All festival events will be held at the Reelfoot Lake State Park Visitors’ Center at 2595 State Route 21 E in Tiptonville.

Jackson Symphony: The Jackson Symphony returns to First Baptist Church of Jackson next weekend for a performance of a classic symphony with an accomplished guest instrumentalist.

Violinist Julian Rhee has been enjoying success since performing his first concerto at the age of 8 and has been praised as one of his generation’s most celebrated violinists.

The Jackson Symphony is a non-profit organization meant to bring the experience of a full symphony orchestra performance typically enjoyed in larger metropolitan areas to the Hub City.

The performance on March 5 with Rhee is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
