Coffee plays an essential part of the everyday goings-on at Sant Ambroeus in Royal Poinciana Plaza.

After all, like other restaurant locations, the one in Palm Beach is inspired by the original Sant Ambroeus that opened in Milan in 1936.

However, the ingrained coffee rituals of Italy — where coffee often is downed at a counter-service coffee bar — take a back seat to a Palm Beach leisure mode at the restaurant and café. A variety of hot and cold coffee drinks are offered at Sant Ambroeus to enjoy at the counter or a table or elsewhere.

Hot coffee drinks, priced between $5 and $8, include espresso, macchiato, cappuccino and caffe latte to ristretto (a short shot of extra-strong espresso), espresso doppio (a double shot of espresso) and cappuccino Viennese (a cappuccino topped with whipped cream and grated dark chocolate).

A shakerato — espresso shaken with ice — is among the cold (“freddo”) coffee drinks ($5 to $8), which also include cappuccino freddo. Iced American coffee also is available.

“Coffee is big part of Italian culture and is usually enjoyed at the counter,” Adil Avunduk, director Florida operations for Sant Ambroeus Hospitality Group, said.

Guests in Palm Beach “enjoy the Italian espresso break at the counter but appreciate having a longer seated coffee in our dining room (or) taking their coffee while strolling with their bikes around the island or walking around the plaza,” Avunduk said.

The most popular coffee drinks? Espresso and cappuccino, he said.
