THE DISH: Go cold turkey with reheatable Thanksgiving meals from local spots

Nov. 10—Each year, we can give thanks that local restaurants and bakeries are willing to do the cooking for us. First off, here is a list of places selling fixings for your home meal. The next column will have places open on Thanksgiving if you want to leave both the cooking and cleaning to someone else.

Make note of the order deadlines. These businesses have to plan ahead so get those orders in before it's too late.

Angry Barnyard BBQ (916 18th St.): For the 23rd year, sister business Catering Affairs will offer a full Thanksgiving spread to go. Order a meal for two ($75), four to six ($185) or eight to 10 ($265), with a choice of smoked turkey breast or roasted sliced ham; mashed potatoes and gravy or rosemary Parmesan grits; green bean casserole or sauteed green beans with tomatoes and bacon; steamed carrots with lemon and Parmesan, herb stuffing, gravy, cranberry relish, dinner rolls and butter; and choice of pie: apple, pumpkin, pecan, sweet potato or buttermilk. Most dishes are also available a la carte, ranging from $8 to $30. A whole smoked turkey ($95 for a 16- to 20-pound bird) is also available. Baked Bake Shop (3401 Pacheco Road, Suite K): This bakery has you covered for dessert with options including a cake decorated like a turkey ($30) available in chocolate or confetti cake. Other sweets include apple pie and pumpkin pie trifles ($32 each), peach cobbler ($43) with a biscuit crust, apple pear crisp ($43) with old-fashioned oat crumble, mixed berry peach crisp ($43), pecan pie cheesecake ($45), and pumpkin flan ($22). Black Angus Steakhouse (3601 Rosedale Highway): Takeout turkey meals can feed four ($103.95), eight ($207.95) or 12 ($311.95). Meals include sliced roasted turkey, garden salad, home-style mashed potatoes with gravy, sage dressing, sweet potatoes, fresh broccoli with garlic butter, fresh cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and molasses bread. Pickup is Nov. 22 or 23. Order online at blackangus.com.

Cracker Barrel (3310 California Ave.): Plan ahead with a Thanksgiving heat n' serve feast ($129.99, feeds four to six; or $179.99, serving eight to 10 people), with an oven-roasted turkey breast, cornbread dressing, turkey gravy, cranberry relish, sweet potato casserole, choice of one or two country sides (depending on size of meal), sweet yeast rolls, and pumpkin and pecan pies (for larger meal only). Chef Lino's Catering Kitchen (1919 H St.): All you have to do here is heat up the oven with these take-and-bake options (reheating instructions included). A complete meal ($200, feeds four to six) comes with a 10- to 13-pound whole turkey, stuffing, turkey gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed vegetables, tossed salad, green bean casserole, cranberry relish and rolls. Have a bigger party? Add a prime rib with au jus and horseradish ($150), honey-baked ham ($65), another turkey ($70), or pumpkin pie ($20). All side dishes are available a la carte from $5 to $20. Orders must be prepaid by 5 p.m. Nov. 21. Call 661-885-8006 to order. Pickup will be available 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 20 to 22. Delivery ($55), offered within 10 miles of the kitchen, will be on Nov. 22.

Cope's Knotty Pine (1530 Norris Road): Who needs pie when you can get scratch-made cobbler? Knotty Pine will offer your choice of blackberry, cherry, apple or peach in large (feeds 20) or small (feeds 10) options. Orders for dinners must be made by 2 p.m. Nov. 15 while orders for cobblers must be made by 2 p.m. Nov 18. Call 661-399 0120 between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. for pricing and to order. Pickup is on Nov. 22 by 2 p.m.

Marie Callender's (3801 California Ave.): The feast will be on with options of a turkey breast meal ($159.99) or ham meal ($189.99) that includes 4 to 5 pounds of meat, cornbread, apple-sage stuffing, turkey gravy, chef's vegetables, cranberry sauce, fire-roasted yams, choice of apple or pumpkin pie, and coffee. You can also order a ham and turkey breast feast ($219.99), the ultimate whole turkey feast ($184.99), or ultimate whole turkey and ham feast ($219.99). An assortment of pies, including pumpkin ($16.99) and pumpkin cream cheese ($20.99), are also available. Order at mariecallenders.com.

Moo Creamery (4885 Truxtun Ave): The popular restaurant has all your holiday sides including stuffing with apples and mushrooms, made with real turkey juices ($38, serves eight to 10); mashed potatoes ($16 per quart); fresh cranberry sauce ($14 per pint); green bean casserole with mushrooms and fried onion strings ($38, serves eight to 10); roasted vegetables, with butternut squash, carrots, baby turnips, red onion and fennel ($22 per quart); scratch-made turkey gravy ($16 per pint); macaroni and cheese ($32, serves six to eight); and homemade brioche dinner rolls ($9 for half-dozen). Desserts range from $28 to $42 with options including classic apple or pumpkin pie, cranberry-apple crisp, chocolate cream pie, sticky toffee pudding and holiday bread pudding (roasted apple or chocolate chunk). Mossman's Catering: Get your Thanksgiving meal ($195.95, feeds eight to 10) from the popular local caterer with a menu of a whole bone-in turkey, Jerry's famous turkey gravy, kitchen stuffing, mashed potatoes, Grandma's green beans, Mossman's rolls and butter, garden salad with ranch dressing, and cranberry sauce. Add a cobbler for $24.99. Orders must be in by Nov. 16 at either Mossman's (3610 Wible Road or 1819 30th St.) for pickup before 2 p.m. Nov. 22. NV Catering (3301 Pegasus Drive, Suite 4): The catering business is offering a holiday feast ($160, serves up to 10) that includes citrus-and-herb-roasted turkey, garlic whipped potatoes and gravy, blistered green beans with fried onion strings, herb stuffing, cranberry sauce and fresh-baked butter-top rolls. Customers can also order items a la carte including the turkey ($75), maple-glazed ham with ginger ale ($54), roasted Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes ($34), Parmesan au gratin potatoes ($23), jalapeno mac and cheese ($30). Petroleum Club at Sundale (6218 Sundale Ave.): Order a to-go dinner ($229, $199 for club members) for eight to 10 people that includes an oven-roasted whole turkey, turkey gravy, traditional stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, cranberry relish, green salad with champagne vinaigrette, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. PorkChop & Bubba's BBQ (1230 H St.): The barbecue hot spot has a family meal ($375 for six to eight people, $595 for 12 to 14) that includes prime rib, turkey and ham, mashed potatoes, Mammy's corn casserole, green bean casserole, Mammy's cornbread stuffing, turkey gravy and cranberry sauce. Dishes are served cold, ready to heat. Customers can also order meats a la carte including prime rib ($250 for half, $425 for whole), smoked turkey breast ($54.95 for 4 to 6 pounds) and smoked ham ($11.95 per pound). Orders must be placed by Nov. 20 by calling 661-520-4227. Pickup is from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 22

Sweet Peas (1818 G St.): Vegan or vegan-friendly diners can order sides of sautéed green beans ($20) and scalloped potatoes ($24) as well as gravy ($6) and cranberry sauce ($15). Half-loaves of focaccia (rosemary or cheesy onion for $15, jalapeno cheese for $18) are available as is the popular, heat-and-serve Holiday Bowl ($12). Bring dessert with a Thanksgiving pastry box ($35), with pumpkin spice cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin maple scones, or a pie ($40) with options of pumpkin, apple or chocolate pecan. The Kitchen (1317 20th St.): The teaching kitchen and event space will leave the turkey to you and offers a variety of side dishes, which each serve about six people. This supporting cast includes creamy mashed potatoes ($24), sweet corn soufflé ($24), fried green beans with candied bacon ($26), baked mashed sweet potatoes ($28), traditional stuffing ($26), house-made turkey gravy ($12), cranberry sauce with essence of orange ($12), fresh mild salsa ($10), and roasted carrots, potatoes and fresh herbs ($24). Pickup time is between 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 22 at The Kitchen.

Wiki's Wine Dive & Grill (11350 Ming Ave., Suite 260): The restaurant is offering a Thanksgiving feast ($169) with 2 1/2 pounds each of oven-roasted turkey breast and sliced honey ham, tossed salad, apple herb stuffing, fresh green beans with bacon, toasted garlic mashers, mac and cheese, chef's turkey gravy, cranberry relish, apple and pumpkin pies, and Wiki's seasoned bread. Customers can add on seasoned prime rib ($110 for 7 pounds), sweet potatoes ($20) or chicken tortilla soup ($18). Call 661-399-4547 to order by Nov. 21.
