From certain angles, Dishonored, Bethesda Softworks' 2012 marquee title, bears a passing resemblance to BioShock 2, Deus Ex, Thief, and Half-Life 2, but there's a reason for that.
Dishonored proposes a steampunk dystopia in which primitive and advanced technologies mix with political assassinations, rooftop pursuits, and what appear to be supernatural powers.
The team at Arkane Studios, in Lyon, France, are quite entitled to take inspiration from those influential titles, given that they actually worked on them.
Lead designer Harvey Smith put time in on Deus Ex and Thief: Deadly Shadows, Raphaël Colantonio's Arkane Studios team helped out with BioShock 2, while Viktor Antonov's influence was felt throughout Half-Life 2's City 17 and is Dishonored's art lead.
The game is due out in 2012 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and sees players step into the shoes of a man who was once bodyguard to the Empress, and is now a mask-wearing assassin with a grudge to bear.
