Disney’s baby elephant makes debut at Animal Kingdom

ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — Meet Walt Disney World’s newest and cutest resident — Corra.

The 2-month-old, 312-pound African elephant calf made her debut at Animal Kingdom’s Savanna on Thursday.

According to the park, Corra’s birth marks the first time in seven years that the park has welcomed an African elephant calf. The calf’s mother, Nadirah, was also born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, making Corra the first second-generation elephant in Animal Kingdom history.

Animal Kingdom said Corra will join a herd full of her relatives in the Savanna, including her aunts, Stella and Luna, as well as her grandmother, Donna. The baby calf’s father, Mac, also lives at the park.

Park officials said Nadirah voluntarily participated in her own care, and keepers “made sure she was comfortable every step of her pregnancy.” The momma elephant ate plenty of her favorite treats during her pregnancy, like sweet potatoes, carrots, and hay.

Nadirah was pregnant for 22 months before she gave birth to Corra in December, according to the park.

“Seeing extraordinary moments like this is one of the many reasons Kilimanjaro Safaris is so special,” Dr. Scott Terrell wrote on Disney’s blog. “Next time you’re at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, be sure to take a safari ride and say hello to this dynamic dynasty.”
