The red carpet premiere for Disney Channel's upcoming Descendants 3 will no longer go ahead following the tragic death of one of its leads, Cameron Boyce.

Cameron, who played Carlos – the villainous son of Cruella De Vil – in the film series, passed away on July 6 after suffering a seizure.

Ahead of Descendants 3's premiere, which was scheduled to take place on July 22, Disney Channel has since confirmed that it will no longer go ahead out of respect for the actor.

In a statement, Disney Channel revealed that it will dedicate the telecast of Descendants 3 to Cameron's memory when it premieres on August 2.

It wrote (via Entertainment Weekly): "We're proud to be part of Cameron Boyce's legacy by showcasing his talents on screen, but we are cancelling the red carpet premiere event for Descendants 3 scheduled for July 22.

"Instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organisation to which Cameron was deeply committed.

Earlier this week, the actor's family confirmed that the 20-year-old died "as a result of an ongoing medical condition", and asked fans and well-wishers to respect their privacy.

"We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart-wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family, and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral – which in and of itself, is agonising," a statement read.
